Who was Selahaddin Eyyubi?

Salahuddin Ayyubi, also known as Saladin in the West, was a brave and smart Muslim leader in the 12th century. His strong belief in Islam and its core values, along with his dedication to the Islamic cause, helped him achieve significant accomplishments.

Under his leadership, the Ayyubid Empire brought together Egypt and Syria. Most importantly, he played a key role in defeating the Crusaders by recapturing Jerusalem. This earned him a prominent place in the histories of both Muslim and Western cultures.

Saladin was born in 1137 AD in Tikrit, Iraq. He learned the Quran, theology, astronomy, math, and law. As a young man, he joined the military and was trained by his uncle, Asad-al-Din Shirkoh, a commander of the Zengid Dynasty. Saladin did well in early battles and got important roles in military campaigns.

He went from being a soldier to becoming the King of Egypt and Syria because of his smart tactics and good circumstances. Saladin got powerful positions in Egypt and took over from the Fatimids. In Syria, the Zengids were in charge, but when their ruler died, leaving a young successor, Saladin saw his chance to take over Syria.

While he ruled, Saladin built schools, hospitals, and institutions for learning and civic progress. He worked to bring justice, peace, and prosperity to his domain.

Saladin was raised with the understanding of “Justice for the world, freedom for Jerusalem” and was the head of the Serhad Ghazis under the protection of the Zengi State, who fought with the Crusaders for this cause. The Knights Templar besiege the city of Ascalan, the lock of Jerusalem.
